How I lost my hall closet to baseball

Earlier last week I walked downstairs to get breakfast going and as I make my way down the hall I passed Marc’s baseball bag for the umpteenth time, several bats and both his and hubby’s gloves. Once again I narrowly miss tripping over the cleats that somehow are always laying by the door (you would think by now I would either make it clear they don’t belong there or NOT trip over them every other day…goes to show Marc doesn’t get his coordination from mom). I turned on the lights and there it is, a bucket of baseballs that somehow set up shop in my kitchen when baseball season started this spring. It’s now fall and that bucket is still here and I still hate it. But no matter how many times I put that bucket away it somehow ends up right back in my kitchen.

As the bucket and I have a stare down contest for the next few minutes I decide that no matter how, that bucket along with all its baseball buddies hanging out in my hallway are gone. I was determined. Baseball may have taken over my life during the baseball season but I was putting my foot down, baseball would not take over my home.

Hmmm, how to get all this out of here? Basement? That will never work, the season may be over but winter practice is in full swing. That means Marc is heading out almost every evening to practice either at the team facility or out back with dad. They might take the gear down the first few days but I don’t see that lasting very long. Hmmm plan B, garage? Wait, what am I thinking…if they won’t take the gear down to the basement how on earth will they head out to the garage. Onto plan C, hall closet? That may work. But I don’t want to give up the hall closet. It serves as my second closet and I keep all my “daily” shoes and my winter jackets and coats in there. I walked back in the kitchen to get a glass of water and as I turn there it is…the bucket, mocking me.

That is it! I charge out of the kitchen, narrowly missing those damn cleats..again. I begin pulling out all the shoes, the coats the jackets…oooh can’t wait to wear my cute black fall jacket (come on focus). I head over to the hall and grab all the gear. I start organizing everything, I find myself really motivated and begin setting up closet organizers. I step back beaming with pride, this looks good. I head to the kitchen and grab that bucket and toss that in the closet. That evening when everyone gets home I show them our new “sports closet”. Thank God they like it. I really believe this fixes the issue of baseball gear overtaking my house.

It has been a week since the new sports closet and no gear throughout the house, no tripping over cleats, no bucket in my kitchen and all is good. That is until I walk into the family room and realize all my jackets, coats and shoes are laying there. I suddenly realize the reason they are  laying there is because I lost my closet to baseball…damn you bucket!
